Recently opened in Kensington Gardens is Brighton’s newest photography gallery. Located upstairs at Snoopers Paradise the current exhibition is of over 400 images of the city taken by entrants to the ‘Essence of Brighton & Hove’ photography competition run earlier this year by North Laine Photography. Work is on display by the finalist and winner of the £2000 prize money. Winner of £1500; James DiBiase On show is DiBiase’s on going documentary work on Brighton’s infamous swimming club. Shooting in the early hours, he takes clubhouse stills and braves far from tropical waters to get these intimate and evocative images. RunnerUP £500 Prize; Kevin Sare A series of sensitive images exploring a group of travellers in their home environment. By capturing this unique culture and identity Sare aims to dispel the common stereotype of this community built on intimacy and primeval unity. Finalist; Rupert Rivett Is it the people that make Brighton the place it is, or does a place like Brighton make the people they are? Rivetts pictures from ‘Brighton Untold Narrative’ is a work in progress about exuberant times in the city. Finalist; Patrick Mu. This collection of images is a truly enlightening perspective of Brighton. Patrick Mu attended the Big Issue Photography Group taking photos with a ‘throwaway’ camera.
